As I was getting ready to clean the saw up, I wondered will I melt something this time using what was available to cut grease. So..... What have you mixed/sprayed/combined that lead to disaster. As a kid I thought if I were to pour gas line water remover through my wet goose call it would dry out my wet goose call quick. Ya it got the moisture off the wet reed so well that the reed could never get wet again as it melted out the end of the call. Well we won't do that again SMH!
Dumbest thing I did was when I observed some oxidation spots on the slide of my Sig Sauer .45- without really thinking I used some rust remover, and immediately took the blued finish off of a 1.5 inch section of the slide! THEN I read the back of the bottle and saw the warning that it will also remove blued finish...sheesh. All's well though, I took it to a gunsmith buddy and he refinished it in a permanent Teflon finish in a dark OD green. The gun looked great, although I can't look at it without thinking of what a dumbass mistake I made.
Are there any forbidden chemicals that will eat through the plastic on my saw? I have used carb n choke cleaner to clean grease dirt chips out of my side cover and it hasn't melted yet.
I use brake cleaner with no ill effects. I believe the plastics are designed to handle most solvents/gasoline.
Just talked to my neighbor about this topic. He unthinking wanted to thin paint for his airless sprayer and gave it a chug of paint thinner. Only problem is it was latex paint and curdled in the sprayer.
