Hey Guys, I don't think that I am overly concerned, but have not ran into this little bugger before. My cousin and I scrounged some Maple in the early spring that I am just getting to splitting. Storm dropped the tree right beside a friends barn. Rounds were big enough when we loaded them up that we had to split them into quarters to get them in the truck. Noticed some bug damage, but also noticed some ants so I did not think too much about it. Went to split them down and am running into these guys everywhere. everywhere from larvae to beetles. Any worries with these guys on the property? Would be willing to torch the whole scrounge in the firepit as opposed to losing a tree or trees. Thanks!!

That is what we always called them.

While in the grub stage, they raise hell with you lawn and gardens. I've had seedlings cut right off. I'll dig down and find one of these grubs or cutworms. The grub becomes a June Bug, the cutworm becomes a month.

Different bug from the first pick . the june bug has a shorter abdomen and the grub does not have that dark a head.also no legs on the grubs

Dont know what kinda of bug that is... But as long as its split they'll loose interest in it as it dries even further.

My chickens love them . when i start the splitter they run to the side of the pen closest to it and wait for snacks to get tossed their way

Well, Looks like I am going fishing then! My thoughts as well to ignore them. But not having seen them before, and not finding them with a little digging online, though I would toss it out there.

    Thanks All. Cheers!!

I've seen many of those over the years, I never really knew what they were, but the house is still standing, so I guess we're OK.
