Got my big, wet rounds split and stacked. Still have the smaller ones to go, but that was all the motivation I had today in 91 degree heat with 80 percent humidity. I cribbed 2 pallets worth with 4 stacks on each, about 6.5 feet high. Want them to get plenty of air and sun, and then stack them in the dry racks under the deck. **I just took several pictures and not one attached. Grr. **
Aha! Pictures posted! In the words of the famous Ricky Bobby, of Talladega Nights fame, "That.Just.Happened."
Three-fourths was poplar, and the other quarter is oak. It's funny the difference in densities and weight between the two- the poplar was twice as big and weighed half as much as the oak.
Yeah its amazing how heavy the oak is. I got some in Feb and the first of its kind for me. Its lighter a little bit now, got it fresh cut. It has been the heaviest load to date. Even as I loaded up 3 FULL white birch loads in some of the wettest April, I could only load the trailer about 3/4 full of oak. these were rounds about 12-14 inches in diameter to branches about an inch or less 3-5 feet long. The residential area wasn't wanting any more cut on the property than needed but the widest was over 3 feet! One round of that would have done the hauler in! I even had help too. Sure do love poplar for kindling though!
There's not too many things heavier than than spring cut waterlogged Oak. I try to cut it before late Feb. or early March. Much lighter.
Wood cut during the winter dormant stage here is a bit lighter of course. Still heavy, for sure; but once spring starts....the water flow in the wood kicks in!
Even though it's 93 degrees and humid like last weekend, I dug in and finished splitting and stacking. Today's haul is a bit over a cord. Feels good to be finished! I chugged down 2 big bottles of Gatorade, and still haven't peed. Man, that heat will take it out of you!
