This morning we noticed the acorns are dropping. It is just the caps. This is not a good sign at all. These are off red oak. Hopefully the whites will give a good crop as we had very few last year. The deer need them to put on fat for winter.
There has been a doe hanging around here for the past several weeks. She seems to be eating all the time. Hunting around here has been limited to Bucks only, so unless a wolf or coyote gets her, she should be around for a while.
I doubt it. I do wonder though when we put up the barn really close to that tree if we didn't rob it of too much moisture. However, it does seem to be healthy other than the dropped nuts.
My neighbors walnut tree is dropping walnuts already.... kathump... boom...boom....as it falls on his metal roof....
I keep wondering when it will start on our metal barn roof but looks like it won't this year if they are dropping already.
Had an oak come down this past week and it had a bunch of small acorns. If the oaks that don't come down and die have as good as this one does, it should be a good year for acorns.
