I have a couple of gallons of 90 octane ethanol-free gasoline mixed with Stihl synthetic 2-cycle oil that is about 6 to 8 weeks old. Should I use it in my saws or kill some weeds around the stacks with it?
Run it...not a darn thing wrong with 8 week old E free...heck, I'd probably even run 8 week old E 10 unless it smelled bad or had separated or something
Use it. There is nothing wrong with it, last year i mixed 4 gallons in may and ran it till the first week of october. It was stihl ultra mixed with 90 octane ethanol free.
Use it, it's still good. And on your next trip out, pick up a bottle of StaBil fuel stabilizer, it'll make your stored fuel keep for up to a year.
I have been running on year old +/- fuel this spring. It is last year's left overs and is almost gone now. The saw is running great on my old E-10 fuel.
I don't see a problem. Still using some fuel from last year. It's fine....saw runs fine. Oh, and it's 87 E-10.
Sure glad that I'm not the only one who breaks the 30 days and dump it. Not sure I've ever had any fuel issues, other then loaning out the pressure washer (new carb now) and replacing the carb on our 12+ year old snow blower (surging).
I would use it Snow blower sits w gas in it, from winter to winter , E free gas w StaBil in it ,starts second pull ,runs great
Use it. Next time you need to fill up the gas can, dump in some Seafoam before you fill it, call it good for 6-12 months.
I've never understood why so many are afraid to keep gas around very long. For saw use, it is common for us to buy gas in the winter months and then it sits around through the next summer and fall and then gets used the following winter. No problem.
I see you have over $3,000 invested in chainsaws. Do you wanna take a chance on damaging them over $7 or $8 worth of fuel?
Yep, me too. Until I had a can of gas go bad and my saw kept shutting off. Luckily it didn't ruin the saw.
I have never had a problem using older mix, but I use a quality oil w/ a stabilizer and always store it in my garage in tightly sealed plastic containers. I know what works for me and what I am comfortable with. I hear so many stories about bad gas and experiences ruining equipment, but that has not been my experience, so I will keep doing what I'm doing. Everyone needs to make their own decision, I guess.
Ran lean till it shut off on long cuts in 20" oak? Saw wouldn't stay running at full throttle. At least that's what the dealer lead me to believe. Now that I think about it, that doesn't add up. It ran fine after dumping the gas and filling with fresh I edited my post above, Dave.
