Even notice that when computers break in clusters? It's been months since I've had any computer work (it's a sideline). Sunday night my media center went down, Monday I had a laptop brought to me and this morning I had to service a router. Wonder what it will be tomorrow.
Well, if you need more to do, rebuild something. Any upgrades needed? Go to a computer show, or get online and order up some parts. Post pics when you're in the middle of it. Um, what's wrong with 'em? Any idea? I've got 3 boxes (old systems I was using to stream) that either need to get donated or tossed. I got tired of rebuilding those.
Yup. I'm self employed tech and it will be quiet for a week then bang the phone is ringing off the hook with a dozen people wanting it fixed yesterday but don't want to pay the going rate.
Over heating issue on the media center, may have to replace the hard drive if the deep scan doesn't fix it. The laptop is full of virii but I can't wipe it out until they back up their files (told them to do that 6 months ago). It is specifically targeting antivirus programs and so they can not be installed. The router had been compromised but it is up and going now. Did that all off-site, the client is good at following instructions.
Nortons antivirus shut my new computer down. I had to have it purged from my system in order to get it up and running. I'm not happy with most those antivirus system. Now windows defender is what I have and it seems to be doing as well as anything so far. plus, it is free. comes already going in Windows 8 and 8.1 I lost 6 months of files because I failed to back them up. Now they go to skydive. I learn, but it seems too often that it is after taking a hit.
Used to really like norton, now 9 times out of 10 when someone has a connectivity issue, it is from Norton's proxy server.
99% of the time I am able to nicely clean up even the most messed up machines. Very rarely do I ever have to wipe out a hard drive and if I do it's easier and faster if I just ask them what is important and I back it up myself. Cleaned one up recently that had over 1500 bits of malware and virus. I liked Norton products 20 years ago. Now it's just annoying bloatware imo.
