I'm on the hunt for my first 1911. I know, I know.....what red blooded American 2a lover doesn't have one or 12, right? Me, unfortunately. Well, I'm about to change that. I'll have one to show off here soon enough! Show me your 1911! List your mods and additions too!
I too was one of those 1911 hold outs. After shooting my son in-laws inherited Remington rand 1911 I had to have one. So in 2011 the 100 year anniversary I started looking for one, I settled on the Ruger sr1911. Took 6 month's to get, but have been very happy with it. All stock except for the lead I've put down the barrel.

My nefew's wife just sent me this pic earlier. He inherited it from my sister when she passed a couple years ago.
Caliber is something I haven't decided on yet. Don't tempt me lukem I already load 9mm but I hear they are not as reliable as the 45 in the 1911. . 45 or 10mm means new loading tools which is no big deal. Hell, a 10mm 2011 isn't outta the question. Or 40 short and weak since I load that already too. Hmmmmmmm. Choices. Good problem to have
Well friend if your only ever gonna have one, then make it a 45 that's what the great icon was made for but doubt that will be the case once you have your first one... Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Here's the one that got me started down the 1911 trail. This isn't a ww2 gun I believe it to be pieced togather, if it were it would be fairly valuable Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Now to pour gas on the fire of temptation how about a 1911 build!!!! You know you want one or 10! They are not quite as easy to build as an AR but not not overly difficult either. One off the best descriptions I heard about 1911's was sloppy is reliable, but tight is accurate.
I've always wanted an ithica. (Insert drooling emoji) Something about the history of not only the gun and era but the area and what it is now, makes it to me a serious collectable.
If you do some reading, you'll find that Ithica had thrown together some early pistols out of whatever parts they could get their hands on, including Remington made receivers. You may have something there! No idea of how to verify? 1911s of the Second World War - The Truth About Guns
