No way. We usually do our cutting in the winter months when it is much, much cooler or even cold. However, I've found that as of late it seems to do my body a lot of good to at least run one tank of gas through the saw from time to time. That's what I did this morning before the heat of the day but working where the sun shines is still hot! Yet, they say the temperature here is only 74. At least it is not humid so one can do some work without too much suffering.

Man oh man, that oak is heavy, heavy, heavy. Yes, it is white oak. Actually, one that Scotty Overkill dropped for us at the GTG last spring. He did a fine job too. No Scotty, I still have not got the limbs up out of the creek. It's just starting to get dry enough to get back there decently but still needs to dry up. In addition, I need to get a lot of that oak out of the way in order to get the tractor up to the creek to lift the limbs up. It will get done, sooner or later.

I took this picture for those who always seem to think they have to have a saw with a bar that is longer than the diameter of wood they are cutting. lol I almost put the 20" bar on this morning but decided against it and just stayed with the 16". It did just fine.

The ole bones seem to work better in warmer temps too.
As long as it's not too warm

    Looking good

Yes, you can be right on that one.

Hope the bike riding is going well this summer.

Big rounds of oak = heavy rounds. Those splits will look great burning in the wood stove, after 3-4 years

It's definitely a great idea to get out and work the saw and do some splitting every so often. Keeps the muscles used to it so you don't pay dearly when you start up after not doing it for a while.

Even though I am going to do a lot of my cutting this summer I am going to try and save all the splitting until winter.

So now that you have your tractor you should be able to get those rounds with the bucket. Some nice looking wood.

Now Dennis, make sure you let that oak sit for a few years before you try burning it! :p

I have a number of white oak limbs needing to be cut to length. this thread has inspired me to get them cut. And, it'll afford me opportunity to run my saws dry, before they sit for a few months.

I love white oak as long as I have 3 plus (emphasis on plus) years to let it season. Bourbon whisky is aged in white oak barrels and when you split white oak, you know where Bourbon gets its distinct smell which begs to question: does Bourbon smell like fresh split white oak or does fresh split white oak smell like Bourbon?
I do not know what it is about white oak that takes it so long to get "ready" but when it is, it is my favorite.

When the answer is bourbon, what was the question? Does the question matter?

Wasn't it Hank Williams Jr. that sang, "it takes a whole lotta liquor to like 'er, and the more I liquor I like 'er just fine.."

~hanging head low~ I know... I know. Racks are full. I can always refuel, as needed. I have 4 standing deadwood trees on my property. A red oak, a maple and 2 ash. Plans are to take them down, once heating season starts. Much smaller footprint where they are.

I had a white oak blow across the driveway at my property last week. Didn't take any pictures, but I worked 2 afternoons clearing it. It was around 30' in the neighbors woods, broke off about 10' up the trunk. The crown was in my driveway, 50 feet from the property line. Hauled 8 loads of branches in the RTV, and took 5 loads of firewood over to my brothers next door. Stopped cutting when I cleared my line-the rounds were 18" at that point-still another 10-15' in the woods.

WeldrDave and his wife, Chris, stopped by one day last week for a visit. We took a walk thru the woods and saw at least half a dozen trees on the ground needing attention. There are a lot of dead trees still standing, vertical wood piles. Wood shed is almost full, another half cord should do it. I guess I don't have much choice by to run my saws this summer. If I can get out early in the day I may be able to take advantage of some cool weather. Only have to deal with bugs.
Dave, thanks for stopping by. It was a great pleasure to put a face to a name.

Weather isn't bad now ,80s with low humidity .
Best thing for summer is a sweatband , keeps it out of your eyes and off your glasses
You going to split em up right there or haul out the rounds ?

I feel terrible too. My last can of mix had sat for over a month, so as per my own rule, it went into the tiller today so
    A. I'm at least getting some good from it, and
    B. I never like to burn stale mix in the saws.
    I'm so ashamed.

Can you buy non ethanol fuel in your area? Or Av gas?
I use the Av gas from our local airport.
We just got our first non E gas in town.
I may switch to that .

I had a can go bad a couple years back from sitting all winter. My chainsaw kept shutting off during long cuts. Luckily it didn't damage the saw. Switched to the Av gas and haven't look back. I run it in all my OPE now
