First, no, I did not take a camera so no pictures. A large red oak fell at the neighbor's and he did not have the equipment to handle it. So, our chain saw and tractor to the rescue. I did help him some on the cutting and also felling another tree but left most of the work to him. He was very thankful as it was some big stuff which means super heavy. So roll the logs into the FEL and move them to the wood pile. It did save them a lot of hard work. No, I usually don't like to loan out much equipment to others as so many tend to not take care of the equipment like we do. However, when a neighbor needs help, it is difficult to not give help however you can. I could have cut up the whole tree for them but in my physical condition it was much better to supply the equipment and let them do the work. All is well.
You did a good neighborly deed. I do it to but there are limits. Like this one neighbor who doesn't even have a step ladder or a screwdriver set. Some things are just basic things every man should have.
Good on you, Dennis! I'm sure they're grateful for your help, and were ecstatic to have you and the tractor there to make the work easier. always makes the work so much easier!
Sometimes it's better that your neighbor doesn't have a ladder cause if he did he will climb it with chainsaw in hand.
If anything, he learns from you and makes it a "pay it forward" sort of thing. You're absolutely someone who I would love to be neighbors with. Lots of sage advice at that.
Sounds like they used the saw while you were there...to me that's different than just loaning it to them. Nice goin Dennis! It pays to know the right people! I am going to help my neighbor (just help, he knows what he's doing and has the tools to do it) drop a couple Ash yard trees this evening. He said he has Ash firewood coming out his ears right now, so he's takin one, I get the other! :stacke:
Funny Pete that he said he wished he was our son so he might inherit the tractor. You might say he loved it.
Right on Paul. In fact, he wanted to take down another small pine while I was there but I put a stop to that one because it grows right up through a white oak with one limb on one side of the pine and another on the opposite side. In addition, the power line goes right through about 10' from it on one side then on the other side it could possibly come out there is another power line. The only was is to climb and piece down. Not going to happen...
Nice job, Savage. Doing the Right Thing sure makes a guy feel good, doesn't it? Even if you come out with a couple new aches and pains. Also for his sake I'm glad you were there to talk him out of the pine. Sounds like an expensive accident waiting to happen!
