It's been many years since I've cut or split wood this time of year but I did today and it's almost July. I have a hickory down that I bucked and piled the brush over a month ago. Today I got some of it split and I'm going down after dinner to work on it more. Today may be the last day until September it's cool enough for me to to labor outside in the daytime.
Wonderful treat isnt it? I spent two hours last night splitting and stacking some oak that I actually cut when there was still snow on it. Figured it was time. I was hoping to get some more done this afternoon, but a thunderstorm came through, and now I have to bring my wife to the doctors.
It is great that we get some cool at this time of the year and get to cut a little bit. For me, I do whenever I can any more no matter the weather except for when it gets super hot and humid. Then cutting is out for sure.
I agree. Not only am I in the woods harvesting in June, but I'm leaving the hydraulics at rest and splitting by hand after work. Enjoying the heck out of it between T Storms!
Sunny day here today. Tomorrow, back to rain! Managed to get out to the woods and grab just a few chunks of maple though....
I got a short truck load in my half ton earlier by myself then I had my 2 teenage grandsons help me this evening and got a heaping load in my dually. We got all the big rounds split and then piled the rest close to the splitter so I can get it easier, at least 2 ricks left. The next project is a pin oak that I fell late winter/early spring. It's bucked but there are some good size rounds that I'll either need help with or split vertical. It's been a very good day but tomorrow I have to stack 2 loads.
It was cool enough here yesterday to use some 2-4-D on poison ivy in my backyard even though the label says not to use it with predicted high temperatures of 80ºF. I don't think it broke above 75º but the heat is coming back today with a predicted high of 84º.

I'm not going to hijack the thread, and will ask on a separate new thread what we're all getting success with in the poison ivy battle-
another nice cool and dry day today. I actually wore a thermal henly when I went out with the wife, I cant remember ever doing such a thing at this time of year. I came home and split and stacked a little more than a quarter of a cord, then moved about a third into the truck to relocate it in the yard. Unfortunately, I think the end is near for this nice break, and it will be back to splitting in the heat and humidity. Oh well, it was good while it lasted!
Yup had been a nice severa l days. I've been able to split then move some white oak rounds. Now that the humidity is returning, there'll be no more firewood efforts for a while the white oak isn't planned to be used until 20/21 Sent from my SM-T280 using Tapatalk
