First I have to say thank you for the add. My question is I have a mtd/ troy built log splitter, and would like to add a harbor freight pick up crane that I all ready own to my splitter. Looking for ideas if anyone else has done this. Thank you.
I just built one for my Huskee splitter. I built it similar to the gorillabac arm. It is now finished with the foot and a clevis, so I can pull logs from a distance. I am sure mine is heavier than the one I borrowed the Idea from. I had the arm laying around from another project, so I re-purposed it for this. I will get some more pictures tomorrow if you want.
I hung a harbor freight lift from my tree and attached log tongs. I can't even begin to explain how much wear and tear it saves on the body. I'm only about as half as tired as I was after a splitting session.
kinda the idea I have been thinking of , I already have a Harbor Freight pick up lift crane and an electric winch.
Pretty cool ideas guys. As I am getting older myself I may have to look into one of those before I hurt myself lifting large rounds.
Welcome aboard Stephen Porter You'll definitely get some excellent advice on this subject, and many more! Just remember to and post them because we love 'em
I've got an mtd 31 ton that splits vertical and horizontal and I welded a little plate at the top of the beam and mounted a small winch up there so when in vertical position stretch the cable out drag the round over and it falls right on the splitter foot. As for power I made some long leads that reach up to the tractor battery which stays hooked to the splitter for support anyway. I posted it around here somewhere I think. I'll have to do some searching
That's the lift I have I just have to find a way to attach it to my splitter. I like you log table nice and big.
I did the same thing Stephen Porter ... I used a pc of 2"x2" square steel I had that was 10' long and replaced the end pc that came with the pick up crane. Made a multi pulley wheel head out of old Wichard pulleys I had, so I could speed up the lift line x3. Worked well. A few pics... Welcome to FHC...
I guess you lift the splitter up there with the crane or tractor? What are the little chicken ramps for onto the trailer?
They got moved off the deck. I roll the splitter up on the deck with them, using the tractor. Splitter is way too heavy for the crane. It can only handle a couple hunert pounds at best with the added boom length.
That wood shed is no joke...pretty hard core wood hoarder stuff right there! Hows come I never remember seeing your lil firewood setup here before...pretty slick! Is the trailer just a "lift kit" for the splittah, or do you throw the splits in there and then roll the whole thing over to the shed?
