    Relatively unbiased I thought and more accurate than many other articles I've read.. Found it on FB..

    It was a good read thanks . I thought it was interesting that Curan the pellet guy said they could produce more and sell more if he had better cash flow in the off season ... hmm. I'm not a business person ,but seams to me you could maybe get a short term loan . Run the numbers cost of the loan and production vs increase sales does it = a profit?? shoot a whole in my thoughts if I'm off base.

    The article said he burns 25-30 face cords to heat a 2000 sq foot house with a masonry mass stove. Assuming 16" length that would be 8-10 cords which is an awful lot of wood. If that is correct it is far from being efficient.

    IIRC they have the house at 80 degrees too.. I use much less wood (guesstimate 4 cords max a year) for 1600 sq. ft. but it isn't as cold here as there.. I would find 80 degrees too hot with anything over 75 too much.. Generally I found the article more accurate than many I have read and that was my main point..

    I'm with you! If I were the manufacturer of pellets I would be producing what I felt would be sold in a year.. Lean manufacturing is OK if done correctly.. If done too leanly you will lose customers and that could be forever! I work for world's largest maker of razors and keeping our customer's shelves stocked is important or we will lose business.. This sort of thing is tracked by the company ..

    He also said he would like to develop a pellet reserve , When I worked for garden centers we would buy our peat moss and fert early ie Jan and take delivery in Feb. We only put down 20% rest wasn't due until May /June it's a win win , we helped them out in the off season , we had the product when the season crunch hit not waiting for delivery, just my 2 cents.

    The claim of having the house door open for an hour at -20* and the house temp dropping 1*.... Does that make sense?!

    I love masonry but the stoves don't perform any better than metal stoves. At one time I believed the hype about rocket mass heaters but they have turned out to be as efficient as metal stoves, sometimes worse. I have been scouring different forums to get an idea of the average cord use in a year. It is relatively the same result with the metal stoves performing a little better, especially in cold climates.

    It does seem like a stretch ,but if the house is so tight that heat doesn't escape then the cold air wouldn't flood in.
    Think of your house as a chimney. When the hot air goes out the top the cold air is pulled in every little crack to replace it.
    The claim may be possible.

    You can only get so many BTU's from a pound of wood.. Efficiency dictates how much heat stays in the home or goes up the chimney..
