Ive only had the car out i think 14 or 16 times, engine locked up just before it 12th pass. Its been a nite mare since the start. Ring seal was non existence, had blow by real bad. Its currently getting "fixed" again.... its for sale.
Now if you wanted to go REALLY fast, you should've bought a FORD engine.... .lol Sucks to hear about that engine, LinkedXJ.
I really discovered this part of the forum a little too late... X2 on the Hemi haha Anyone who races has had engine problems before, stuff just happens. You'll be racing in no time. Cool Chevelle by the way. I'm building a 512 stroker with about half the power of that engine for my 69 Charger with a built 727, 3500 Dynamic converter and 3.54 Dana 60. It's strictly a street car, nothing like that Chevelle. I'd love to build a 1000+hp street car though...I'm thinking a beat to hell '67-76 4 door Dart or Valiant with a procharged Gen III 426, built 518 auto and 4.56 gears..
Who hasn't pondered a 1,000 horse sleeper As you probably know or will find out over 5-600 horse on the street is enough for lots of fun. Specially with a good converter. A dart with a boosted lsx sounds good to me.
Sorry to hear about the engine troubles! Nothing but nightmares and empty bank accounts with race cars. I gave up on racing years ago, and instead just crew on my friends cars every now and then, need to get back into it now though, I havent been out with them in too long. Lots of fun working on two cars that are faster than anything I could ever dream of owning! Two brothers, ones got a small radial tire Mustang thats been 4.30/6.80 His brother has a Buick Regal with a screw blown hemi thats been 3.84 on a 315 radial.
I have always thought that I was pretty knowledgeable about 60's muscle cars in general and Dodge's in particular until I got into a friendly argument over what Dodge put into Darts. I always thought the biggest motor in a production Dart was a 383 (GTS, Joe Manix's car) but I was told that there was a 426 Dart (the Super Sport?) and the 440 Dart (Sport?). I watched a documentary on Muscle Cars and there they were, very rare albeit but there they were none the less. However, I wouldn't want to try and drive those things around town too much. Probably a lot faster than the 70 318 Duster I had back in the 70's
Yep, those Hemi darts are worth a fortune!!! A friend of mine has a real nice driver really clean Dart that had a factory slant 6. His wife handed him his azz in her Volvo, so in went a 440 lol
Yep...so the 426 Hemi Dart is a Super Stock car. Basically, Chrysler supplied the cars/supplies and Hurst was contracted to build them. With slicks they run mid 10's right off the showroom floor. They built a batch of Barracudas the same way. The 383 cars started in '68, possibly '67 according to some people, but the 440 Darts/Barracudas were made in '69. They're "M" coded cars I believe...the same engine coding on the A12 (440+6 black lift off hood Super Bee's/Road Runners in '69) cars. There was awesome stuff coming out pretty much every year until 1972. I have an '89 police package Diplomat that I routinely surprise anyone who thinks they're bad sitting next to me at the light. It's a 450+ hp 410 stroker (360 0.040 over 4.00" crank), 3500 Turbo Action converter, 3.55 sure grip rear and looks totally stock except for the dual exhaust. I've since painted it, restored the interior and installed headers (broke the cam in with exhaust manifolds). Needless to say on many occasions I've been asked "what the hell is that thing?"
