I asked my parents neighbor to ask his neighbor about these logs on his property. I really went into the purpose of asking if he wanted it split so he could use it and I take a bit of the share in return. The neighbor with the logs and I just talked a little while ago and he says he's changing to gas so he has no use for it and I'm free to take it. What have I gotten myself into now? They were cut to various lengths and looks like it consists of some alder, cherry and a crapton of black locust. Im thinking 2 cord of black locust and it had all been standing dead judging by how the bark has peeled and rotted off. I'll take some pictures soon.
I mean damm. I'm not sure what to do with this but I might try and get this split and sell it to recoup cost that will come with the stove and keep some for myself as well but I already have some locust. Just wondering what the right thing to do here other than getting it over to my place and figuring out what to do from there.
To feed the hoarding instinct, I'd ask if I could cut on his property, given that I'd clean up after. And I'd ask if it would be OK to take several weeks to gather it. And I'd ask what kind of beer (or alternate) beverages he likes.
You do realize that the cooler is taking up space that another piece or two could be in, right? Sent from my SM-T280 using Tapatalk
Cherry grows out here pretty well and black locust is here I see it more often in the area I live in but not where my parents do as much. Im going to guess something went ary as I don't know the nativity of black locusts here as a whole. But they propogate immensely. I have a friend who has 2 giant ones and several smaller ones in her yard. They make awesome shade and probably some of the hotter fires folks can stand!
Took me a minute to figure out what a "crapton" of locust was thought maybe another measure I'd never heard of
That's a chitton, a slight measure more than mine. But this behemoth log in the 3rd picture is like 2' in diameter at the butt end.
I can think of one thing............. Going to my first FHC get together and meeting some of you fine folks!
And cutting up a pile of wood like this, having some brew and good food and loving every minute of it!
