    I noticed Dave doing this and asked about it. They do this when they are out of stock on an item but don't want to stop the listing so they don't have to go through posting a whole new auction. I guess it gets crazy when you have a ton of items that are constantly for sale.

    Yep they do it as a place holder. I do the same thing when I am out of something I sell on ebay. You can acutely relist an item that has sold though and it's not much more trouble than changing an auction several times.

    Amazon sellers do the same thing.
