We cut & split (kinda small for his fire pit) a 10" DBH tree found already down. It was a georgeous day to split, deliver and stack which came out to about 1/6 cord. Measured 17-23% MC which I hope will burn OK in his fire pit with a grate. There are a few small very green wet s.maple rounds. IMG_0082.JPG

Yep that some good looking wood. I would be saving it for my stove and using all the uglies in the fire pit.

Yeah Gark, I'd be saving that for the stove. We have lots of ash left around that size and it works great in the stove even though ours has been dead for a long time. There is not the heat there used to be in it but still good heat and it won't go to waste.

There are always uglies left over from cutting up a tree unless they tossed them away.

Thing is, the friend this wood is for only has a fire pit, no wood stove. His wife wants only pretty & straight wood stacked near the fire pit for cosmetic purposes.

Throw BTU's away -- blasphemy! Kept the uglies for my Ideal Steel which eats 'em like candy.
