Nice. Your pair beats mine. I'm dropping, what I believe is, a shumard oak this coming fall. Definitely not a monster like those but it's crowding a larger oak and it might be 10" at the base. It's next to a large cherry that fell over with all this rain...that should make an odd couple to pull out of the woods.

Leaf with picture can help sometimes for sure. Red oak is one of the easiest to ID with or without. Bob, I'd love to have those kind of trees in our woods. Although we have a few oaks, we don't have a lot but right across the line fence the neighbors have some like yours. Sweet!
I am blessed to be surrounded by White & Red Oak, and I know I'm lucky to have it. Also, Cherry is all around me. One of my favorites.
Looks like both red and white oak leaves in the pile. Hard to tell from the trunk angle and focus whether the leaves in the distance are tree top or tree adjacent in the pile. Both are great, although I find red oak quite easier to split. Some BTU charts state an equivalency for BTU content and others give white a premium edge. I haven't burned enough white oak to have formulated much of an experienced opinion, but I might next year when/if I start burning the four year seasoned white oak cord I have set aside for real cold weather or three or four years from now when I start burning all the white oak that has died around here last Summer.
