Telecom engineer. You know those voicemail systems and call centers that you get stuck in and hate? I sell and install that stuff. My apologies if you've ever been stuck inside one of my creations.

I've worn many hats. Farming, logging, sawmilling, mechanic, parts sales for JD and cat, and the last 7yrs I've been a welder fabricator for the railroad keeping big black locomotives running. PS I know the guys that weld the draft gears in the locomotives so don't get behind one going up hill.

Well, let's see here...the first 17 years on the farm, the next 7 as a motorcycle mechanic, then 5 years in sales. Came back to my senses and did 5 years as a heavy/industrial equipment mechanic and occasional operator, almost 2 more years in the bike shop, and then the last 11 or so keeping the local water and wastewater plants running.
9 years into the wood heat thing, but only the last 5 years as a propah wood hawdah... :stacke:

Chalk up another one for welder fabricator, about 10 years in now, 15 if you count the overtime and home projects. Love what I do and love making things permanent!

Was an aircraft mechanic for a major airline many years ago, then a pilot in Africa for the bulk of my career years, now in the winding-down years of my employment as a college professor.

If I were doing things over, I wouldn't change a whole lot. Maybe I would be a financial planner. Or rebuild vintage aircraft. Or be a pastor. Not sure. Probably the same as I have done, as it has been generally satisfying.

    I like this thread !

I stare at prints all day, trying to discern what the architects want, and the engineers require. And then- letting them know what's actually available. I could sooo go on a rant about this, but I won't. #metalshopblues.

Problems of a 4G, living in a 6G world. (welders will get this, :D)

Wow! You guys have some great jobs! I run a one man landscaping biz specializing in higher end residential maintenance, mowing, installs, etc. Snow removal too, if it ever snows.

When it's slow in the landscape world, I'll do some painting and deck refinishing.

I wish I stayed in school. It just wasn't for me at the time.

Molecular biologist (21 years) working in a neurobiology genetics research lab. We identify genetic mutations that cause neurodegenerative disease and then try to determine why and how the mutation causes the disease with the ultimate goal of developing therapies or treatments. We work on ALS and SMARD1 among others. I have no plans to retire. Before that I slung pizza.

I gotta say I really appreciate all of the mechanical/plumber/electrician/welders/builders/designers, you are the ones that keep the wheels turning. There are days/times when I wish I had a job where I could go to work and get the job done and see the results, that's why I like wood heat, it gives you that sense of satisfaction/accomplishment.
