I put a heater core in the saturn. Why does it always seem like you have extra parts left over. I had a screw left. I looked at both sides of the 6 plastic panels/shrouds that need to be removed to replace it, could not figure where it went though? This was the second one I got. The first came from Amazon. I open the box and looks nothing like mine. I get a refund and order the same one from a third party Amazon seller. Well this time when I open the box the pipes are wrong again. But this time I see a note in there that said that you rotate the pipes to the position you need. Never seen a heater core with rotating pipes? And the crazy thing is that the part was from the exact same company and the same part number. Anyway got it in. I did not take pics as I hate doing heater cores. Seems like every one I do is worse then the last. The last one I did was in the K10 I had totake apart tthe underside of the dash and drip the inner fender to get to it. I thought that was bad but this saturn was pretty frustrating with all the shrouds. And the fact that the pipes go behind the engine where there is no room to get your hands in there.
I hat heater core replacements with a passion! I can't tell you how many of them I have done in blowing snow hanging half out a car in a gravel driveway!
No snow here but my knees were sure eaten up by the gravel, till I put a towel down. Why do they always go out in winter? Coolant always circulates in them all year ?
You could just do what a guy a work did. He bypassed the core all together and bought a nice 3 wick candle for the dash. Cracked his windshield the first day. He has been driving it everyday through the polar vortex. I don't know how he does it. We work outside so the lunchtime warm up is critical. If you hadn't already guessed....he is a dumb@$$. His car smelled nice, lavender and chamomile IIRC.
You wouldn't believe how many times that has been suggested. We've also suggested buying a new heater core...what a concept. As previously stated....dumb@$$
