Craigslist opened up its bay doors this mid morning displaying a free wood ad about 15 mins from my house. Contacted him and he asks if I can come at 7ish. I said "absolutely!" When I get there I asked the guy how long he had the wood. He tells me he didnt really know but he said 8 years ago they were living at the house and then rented it out The wood was there from when they lived there, basically untouched. I asked him if he burned, he said yeah Ive got a fireplace, looking to get a woodstove in there (I recommended insert for him ) but he also said he needed the space since moving back with more stuff. I offered him the wood back if he ever needed it. And yes that back of the car is full too.... Its a mix of pallet wood (oak) and Alder splits. I cracked some together. Sounds like one being knocked out of the ball park. Bark skims off so easily. I think I'm good for the supply i'll be burning this year. Very decent pick up and I'm indebted for such a great supply. Sean you get alder up there or different tree line? I read that they don't extend much further than Bellingham area.
Yes some of this stuff was on the ground but i was still suprised how some of it that was was really lightweight based on the rain this winter. Yes some is wet too, that stuff is outside flat on a pallet in the sun. We're having high 70's mid 80's for the next week or two. I like how Alder is considered a low heat here just when you get it in bigger rounds it has better potential than the sticks. Guess Ive had experience with the kindling size stuff a lot since my dad cut it for their firepit about 5-6 years ago. Good mellow heat. I hope to try smoking some fish and chicken with it a bit.
Yeah we have alder but not for wood burning as its not very big around here. I see lots of it hugging streams and rivers. Good for smoking!
Best kind of pick up hands down. I see that stack there. Shoot. I bet that is crickle crackle dry. Careful touching two sticks together you might get fire!!
