It's a real shame that probably the nicest, most genuine motorcycle racer tragically lost his life while training on a bicycle in Italy. He was bit by a car about 4 days ago, and unfortunately suffered major head / brain injuries. He succumbed late last night in Italy. He was super humble, extremely polite off track, but extremely driven and a tough competitor. My wife and I were big fans of his, we saw him race in person several times, attended q & a sessions with him, and backed him in every racing endeavor. One of our favorite memories is on a video I shot while at the Indianapolis GP when he collided with his then ducati team mate Dovizioso at the last turn directly in front of us. I still can hear the bikes bashing in the back of my mind. Both riders started upright, but Nicky want going to let his teammate beat him at his home race. Here's a foreign clip of that incident. RIP Nicky the Kentucky Kid. 2002 AMA Superbike Champion 2006 MotoGP World Champion Obituary: Nicky Hayden, 1981-2017 We get to watch his youngest brother race in a couple of weeks at Road America. I don't even know what to say about that now. The entire family is very tight. All the brothers raced, and one still races. We've met his brothers, his sisters, and his parents. They are all about bikes and family.
