I was going through some clothes I have not worn in a year or so, they are in my closet which, side is concrete block, back is concrete block. After seeing my jacket in the pic, WWW found the gap between an 2x4 and the concrete wall for the closet frame, it is full of .....dirt? dust? poops? Are these termites? Since when do termites live in Colorado or Wyoming?!?!?
I wonder if they are carpet beetles? I believe they eat natural fibers. Nuisance insects. Any brown worn looking carcasses? Holes in the clothes?
YES Jon, I am so grossed out, tons of lil husks things. My question is, should I see lil carpet beetles?
I've seen them in dresser drawers, in between sofa cushions and on window sills trying to get out. That picture I put up is not that great, but it showed different stages of development.
Hopefully it's like fishingpol called it... But here's a link for your info, wildwest- Redirect Notice
I think they are termites I finally got a pic of a hidden corner, those nasty buggers are already exploring. I think the yellow color is (was) expanding from he used to seal up the bedroom in 2013. The other pic is part of the closet frame against the concrete wall. So what do I do now? Bait? Poison? Bug bomb? Brain storming, I could run around and drill holes in the floor in all the rooms in the house and get stuff under the house that way? (living room ok, have trap door in floor for cistern).
So I left a mssg for the only pest control listed in the phone book last night. Did not get a call back so I called again. She said someone would call by end of the day. Hmmm.
One estimate down, another one tomorrow. 1st one under $1k to get going and a few months maintenance. He said termites were unknown of in town for--forever, but there are now several houses in town just in the last 3 weeks (but there has been some ongoing cases out here in my lake community), he also mentioned VA and FHA loans just changed for the State Of Wyoming, those now MUST get treated whether there are termites found or not. Bummer, guess they're here.
And the Terminex guy here is a flake, should not take 3 days to return a phone call. Thanks but no thanks.
The two predominant methods for termite treatment/prevention are Sentricon and Termidor. Sentricon is the newest generation of bait stations that get placed every 15-20 feet around the perimeter of your house. They have some sort of compressed PVC and tasty treat inside the bait station that termites gravitate to, where they're exposed to poisons and die off. Termidor is a liquid treatment where they dig a shallow trench around your home's perimeter, and then spray the liquid into the trench and cover it back up. This is the gold standard for termite protection/treatment, and USDA studies have shown that the liquid still protects the soil/structure 20 years after application. I went with this option. Sorry you've been targeted by termites, hope this info helps you.
That is some useful info for anyone at risk there. I have termites in the area (lots of dead trees and old stumps in the swamp next door, so am ever watchful for signs of infestation. Didn't know there was stuff that could protect a home for that long.
I didn't know that about the Termidor either, until I was researching options. When I saw the USDA study, I was amazed. I think the molecules bond to/encapsulate the soil, which means it stays put. At that point, any termite that is crawling through the ground on its way to your home hits that toxic minefield and it's bye bye, termite. Attached is the screenshot from the study- showed 100% protection at 15+ years. My disclosure statement: I don't work for Termidor, I'm in the Orthopedics field LOL. *Don't know why the image won't attach. I'm pasting the link too. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...ggiMAE&usg=AFQjCNFuYLpI10gLprcy9tXlsbFZ4QTXJA
