While on my float yesterday (Monday float? Unbelievable!), I rowed back into a newly discovered fishing hole. While selecting my fly and tying on, I looked up to enjoy spring's arrival. As I was admiring the large trees, I noticed I could see right through one. This is a big one, probably 30"+ dbh. I know where I won't be stopping, looking for cover when a storm blows up. I also spotted a Freedom Eagle. I've been watching the nest everytime I float by. I thought I saw one two weeks ago, but this time I definitely did. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
That looks like a good climber hahaha. It's pretty amazing how strong some trees are, even when half missing and mostly dead. As for the eagles
Might I ask? Fly fishing in Indiana from a boat? Gotta know what your target is? Rigging up this AM for some river Walleye. Heading for trout country for the weekend. Love spring!
Yep. I have a small cataraft that I use to float down the river. We chase smallies, which are an absolute blast on the fly. Don't get me wrong, I love fishing for trout, but that is at least a 2 hour drive to a crowded tailwater, and I really don't like combat fishing. I get my trout fix when I go out west about once per year and up to Michigan throughout the spring, summer and fall.
Man I've been wanting to do some fishing...this is "car season" for me...restoring, driving and racing. I have a HUGE hackberry that's about in the same shape as the one you posted. Saw it deer hunting over the fall and last I've known it hasn't fell yet.

These two are destined for the wall. Inside the cabin directly behind me. That cabin is my buddies. We have practiced catch and release for 5 years at his place. Took two for the wall last year and these two this year. Now I have décor for my place on the stream and he does as well. Just to alleviate anybody's thoughts that we are regularly harvesting fish like these for table fare! We have a abundance of streams with state DNR stocking programs that supply us nicely with "eaters" These were fooled with nothing more than a spinning rod/reel/line/artificials compiled from Wait-Mart..... Haaaaaaaaa. Ultra light 5'5". 4lb line. White small artificial. I carry my line and artificials in my breast pocket. About $6 worth of tackle Change the line daily. If not more often. Cast upstream into likely hides. Move fast and cover lots of water every day. All on foot. Works very well.
our lakes are still frozen and our rivers are running high and muddy and closed until June 15th. On a good note some of the back roads are becoming snow free so Ive started wood scrounging again! Nice looking fish guys!
Pontoons are great for hard to reach places. A friend and I have lowered ours off bridges before when there wasn't anywhere else to access the river.
