Yup just fine aside from a little sore. The man upstairs was watching cuz all the Ice missed me by literally inches and I got all the snow. Where you see the ground by my knee is where I got buried at the ice I am holding up for the shot was about 2" from my head.

When the brain goes into panic mode? Lost of things can happen and go wrong.. Or right. Thank god they went right when you hit your panic mode.

Glad to hear you are ok, Pete! The icicles and sheets of heavy wet snow are things we take for granted during a thaw like this. At our RR shops, the buildings are quite tall and being constructed in the 1880's, aren't insulated.........that leads to 20' icicles that can be several feet in diameter and weigh thousands of pounds. Several years back we had a HUGE ice sheet slide off of the one building and it destroyed around 10 vehicles!!

I've been keeping an eye on the heavy snow on the roof here at the house and so far it appears my extra work building my scissor trusses in the remodeled living/hearth room and insulating the ceiling the extra mile (R49) has payed off.......no icicles at all on the eaves......

That's scary Pete, glad your ok. We have lots of icicles on our house here. Almost no insulation in the attic, that will change though as we continue to remodel.

    Wow, Pete. Glad you're OK.

My BIL has a metal roof that developed a huge ice dam in one of the valleys. It ended up POURING water into the house through the ceiling. The cellulose insulation above the drywall panel go so saturated that a whole sheet of drywall fell from his ceiling into the living area. Could have easily taken out a couple of his kids.

Supposed to hit 60* and rain today so hopefully that will help everyone around here get thawed out. I don't have a single icicle on my house...so I must be pretty well insulated.

We had a little leak in our metal roof. First time since I put it on about 14- 15 years ago. The ice was backing up near the edge I guess. Time for some maintenance this spring. I know I need to go up and tighten down every screw on the roof. That is going to take a while.

Careful with that. It can actually make things worse by tearing up that neoprene gasket. Proceed with caution.

Glad you guys didn't get clubbed with ice chunks. Looks as though a lot of us are doing the same thing… moving snow/ice so water can flow. Just came in from roofing raking, blowing and bucketing big piles of snow. They're calling for down pouring hot water rain tomorrow here in Maine… :zip: We have a lousy driveway that slopes, just enough, toward the garage and main walk-in door. I've got all of my drains clear and area's sloped away from the house as much as I can. Love snow… hate winter rains…

Truthfully, I'd like to see enough thawing so that the roofs were all clean again and so that we could see what Mother Earth looks like again.

Got lucky today. Temps were in the mid 40s. The sun came out and warmed up all of my gutters and melted what was left after I cleared the ground drains. The rain tomorrow afternoon still could cause issues, but today's short warm up has got to help.
