Splitting some maple

    Had my neighbor help me drop a big maple last winter that was by the road dying off. Finally started splitting the bigger stuff.
    If you look close there is a seat for Dennis. I will see if I can find a better picture of the seat later.

    Got any more pics to show the working end ?
    Maple looks like some is starting to get punky,
    good you got it split , wouldn't have lasted much longer.

    Ya, we need some pics of the splitter. When I used to split everything by hand hard Maple was a challenge. Silver maple was easy.

    Love that splitter, I remember seeing it before......
    I love having maple in the stacks......especially this time of year. I put a couple splits of red maple in the fireplace this morning......smelled great outside!!

    We sure enjoy burning maple. The last silver was a real STINKER to split though. It lived between two buildings and got a lot of wind- grain was all twisty and wavey. That was split with a maul and wedges. Have a 22T splitter now, so we hope for better WSE (wood splitting experience).

    I'd much rather be sitting directly behind the splitter. Sitting sideways seems like one split come to you and the other goes away from you. Of course, if you get one of those fliers.....:whistle:

    Actually just use the seat most of the time just to take a rest!:)
