Hello everyone. Can someone please recommend a dog safe lawn weed killer ? In the front yard I use Weed B Gone max by Ortho. It works well enough but in the back yard our dog will nibble on the grass so I don't use anything. Just looking for alternatives. Any suggestions ?

Distilled vinegar works on many weeds
    Works on slugs too

I use a weed dragon, no chemicals and I get to play with fire. I made a shield out of some old soffit to keep the wife's flowers from damage. You don't have to burn the weeds down to the ground just hot enough to burst the plant cells.

Chlorine doesn't hang around long at all and kills everything.

This one works pretty good...may not get the really tough ones in one round, but anything non-toxic is probably the same

Plain old hot water kills weeds if you are spot treating.

That mix does work, but it isn't like something you can put down and let it kill the weeds but leave the grass alone. To me, nothing is worth risking poisoning the pets. To that end, I selectively spray with your mixture, and the rest can just grow. Better a weed lawn than a sick dog.

I do use the vinegar soap salt mix and a burner for total veggitation killing. But I was looking for something to spray on the whole yard. They all say "pet safe when dry" but ours like to nibble so dry doesn't matter.

That line or something similar went through my mind but I couldn't figure out how to word it without potentially stepping "over the line" so I decided to leave it alone. ;)

Thanks, very interesting. I'm going to experiment today. It also mentioned sawdust as a carbon source. Is this why my cutting area stays weed free ?

    Might need to pay more.:makeitrain"

I'm not buying that. Sugar will bind the nitrogen starving the weeds. But that starves the grass as well. Causing another list of problems.

The best thing organically is to think long term. Build up the grass to provide a canopy as to prevent weed seeds from germinating.

I'm starting to use wood shavings/sawdust from the shop out in the garden to control weeds in the walkways and not planted areas.
We also use lots of straw in a think layer. Prolly wouldn't apply in your situation.
