Well I can't work right now because the snow we had is melting and it is a quagmire. So I fired up the stove in the wood shop and built a new shooting bench. I used these plans as my guide. I used materials I had on hand. 4x6x8 fence posts and Oak and pressure treated poplar fence boards. It is meant to be buried in the ground 9 inches. I read where someone built this bench and wished they had extended the left hand shooters side so two people could shoot so I did that.
Those are the same plans I used for my bench. I did deviate a bit here and there, but it's a very stable bench. I love shooting on my own land. I have a max range of 300 Meters but it serves me well. I reload and it's nice to work up a new load and just step outside to check it. I don't miss going to a rifle range to do that.
You know, I got so carried away looking at the jointer, I forgot......great bench. Can we see some pics with someone using it now?
It seemed like the best option on the net for a permanent bench. I built mine from what I had on hand. Did you buy your materials in one go and if so how much did they cost? And did you set your legs in concrete?
You want to come down and help me load it in the truck? I don't know when this will be put in position, my fields are awful. We still have some snow and it is raining right now. No work for me again today. I am changing oil in the trucks. The powermatic is nice. Those two pieces of wood on it are hard maple from a basketball court.
I didn't set mine in concrete. It's just buried a bit. Only thing I bought for mine was the top lumber, 3 or 4 boards of pressure treated deck board. Oh and a box of deck screws for the top, I didn't want rust on the top. Don't remember what I paid for those but it couldn't of been more than 25$. The rest of the materials I had on hand from a deck tear off and I just nailed it together with a nail gun.
Got the bench set over the weekend. It is nice and solid in the ground without any concrete. We were shooting pistols when I walked back and actually got a pic of the bench.
