I just saw a 40 lb bag of pellets on CL and wonder if thats even worth getting even if I don't own a pellet machine? The stuff on CL makes you think a bit....
It was free but gone quick. I just figured id ask since a mode is a mode but the other way around this is possibly using it in a smoker....
Free is always good , wouldn't use these pellets in a smoker , where you are located no doubt a soft wood so unless you want your meat pine , spruce or fir flavored
Yuck I actually didnt look at the bag contents so I wouldnt know what it was but are pellets strictly made with the local woods?
Yes stove pellets here on the east coast hardwoods usually oak , can get some cherry and maple mixed in much of the dust comes from flooring companies . Out west dust comes from saw mills all those soft woods and we love them , they burn hot and clean , just a bit pricey to get them from there to here . It depends upon where you are on the east coast , my good friends up in New England can get several nice soft woods from Canada here in the mid Atlantic oak hardwoods and some southern yellow pine .
A friend of mine is getting in on the bug too. Has two boys and one of them gets a serious hankering for splitting wood. He's looked on CL and begs his mother to help him find some. She'll be flipping through CL saying "nope Ben(me) got that stuff, nope he got that too..." sorry kid. But I made up for it by finding a source that the power company takes down to clear their lines today. Brought a trailerful for them as they helped load it and now I just spread the addiction from here on out...
Well if the kid is old enough and they don't mind much, give him the opportunity to split some wood at your place!!
