Ok Team, stepping up my game with the purchase of my first chainsaw, Husky 240e. Yeah I know its just a wee baby but for me and my scrounging to date it should do the job just fine. I hope. Now my thought are turning to a portable sawbuck......
Da hook done been set! Now play hit fer all it worf! I see a pro saw in your not so distant future. Welcome to the land of the woodenheads.
No need to apologize. If it is all that you need, then it is. We sometimes (sometimes?) get carried away with wanting big saws but that little guy would do many of the things I use my larger saws to do and it would feel lighter too.
That's okay if you have a baby Husqvarna for now. I own a 240 and managed about 14 cord now with it, and have shown it no mercy and it keeps on ticking. Consider a chain upgrade.
Yes, it is common for guys to get carried away with sizes of saws. This is when they quit becoming a tool and become a toy! No harm in it but if you want a tool, you get the right sized tool for the job it is to do. It is sort of like one guy having second hand ford to drive back and forth to work while his neighbor wants to drive is Corvette. Both will do the job but what is actually required?
If that will handle your scrounges you're good. Around here I need my big saw (60cc) often, and even when I don't, the long blade (20") on my smaller (50cc) saw saves me from leaning over as much. Cut early, cut often
The only reason I would like a bigger saw in some cases is that they are faster. I would consider a 60cc saw more of a mid range and not a big saw by any means. Congrats on your new saw and enjoy your new found hobby of hoarding. But I do warn you if you stick around you will end up with more than one saw and various axes, mauls, wedges, peavys, and pickaroons. Just saying.
Yeah, like me, I went from one saw to three, along with a few parts saws for future tinkering. An X27, an old maul from my dad, a peavey, a wedge and a wood grenade, and my last piece of equipment ever, a fiskars pickaroon.
If you talk about what is "required" for firewood duty a chainsaw isn't necessary at all, same as a splitter. I vote go big while your body is able and let the CC's make you smile.
I have pictures in my head of you tossing a grenade and hiding behind a tree... Kindling every where! Whats a wood grenade? or did I just walk into a joke?
A wood grenade is a twisted splitting wedge you hit with a sledge or back of a maul. I do like your rendition better though.
