The owner where I work generously allowed me to use the service bay overnight / during off-hours, else I would be bringing them in to have done as well. Best quote I got, with user-supplied parts, was $55.00 per wheel, which wasn't too bad, I thought.

I've been putting this off for over a month now - every time the weather has warmed up, the driveway has turned soft, else it's been too cold/icy/ wet to do safely. This is a lousy time of year for doing any outside automotive work. :(

I think that's a smart move G - no sense putting yourself at any risk, if you're not feeling up to doing the service, especially outside.

I imagine I'll be wishing I'd brought them in, by the 3rd wheel tomorrow night.. Need to do the rear brakes (they're crunchy), I may just stop there and defer the front to another day if needed, we'll see.. I'll be drinking lots of coffee. :coffee:

Picked up another 10 bags of Satisfaction today (crunchy brakes and all ), 3" on the ground so far, starting to pick up a bit, NH DOT doing a great job on the roads today, no issues.

Safe travels all, see ya later.

62 per wheel with rotors is the number I had for Napa Premium (not utra premium) parts including ceramic pads.

That sound like a good setup. If that service bay has a lift and air tools, your golden-I know I would be. Just the lift and heated garage would make a huge difference, even with hand tools. Heck I could knock out rear brakes in about an hour if the right setup and tools were available. I miss the days of being a mechanic and having access to the bays and all the equipment after hours. Sure we had our own tools but all the other equipment in the shop makes things so much easier The place I worked at would let you use them all you wanted for yourself and family vehicles.

These days, I really need the warm weather to work outside, especially kneeling on pavement for several hours. Hel l, I use an old pillow to kneel on now-never did that before. And getting back up after kneeling isnt the "pop back up" it use to be either-its more of a strategic procedure now

Good luck bud, brakes are not that difficult. Just make sure you have a BFH for the rotors that wont come off if rusted in place and a half inch drive breaker bar to go along with the 3/8 drive socket set. If you dont have half inch drive sockets, pick up a reducer or better yet just get the 2 sockets that will fit your lug nuts and for the bolts that attach the pad brackets to the knuckle.

Any parts store or even TSC will have these-if you dont have them it is well worth 20 bucks when you need them. Just make sure you get a good strong reducer-I broke mine 2 years ago trying to free the pad bracket bolts on the front brakes using the breaker and a 3/8 drive socket. I went and bought a 1/2 inch drive 19mm socket to fit the breaker bar without a reducer and it popped those bolts right off

1/2 in. Drive 25 in. Breaker Bar

The way to go is the actual 1/2" drive sockets. IF you get the 1/2 > 3/8 adapter, you should spring for impact-type sockets....regular sockets have a habit of splitting, especially when you you use a big breaker bar. The rear caliper bracket bolts on my '02 Trailblazer were installed at the factory w/ thread-lock liquid.....a breaker bar w/ a pipe attached was needed to get them loose, but i split the regular socket in the process.

NOT. They be Intel chips, but the software burned in them is NOT Windows crap. Go to an Apple store and run one of the higher end machines.....you'll see.

Agreed. I literally twisted the 3/8 male portion of the reducer right off trying to get those bolts off-even using heat. The 1/2 drive socket made easy work of both of those bolts. You do lose some torque using the reducer.

Even though I dont use air tools any more, I use my old impact sockets far more than the chrome ones. Never broken one of those-wore a few out but never broken.

The higher end Macs are Xeon Intel systems None of the software on either classes is *blows however the boxes are Wintel boxen. I don't care who loads the software as long as long I have access to the source and that lets out most commercial bloat ware. You folks would go nuts if you knew what was going on.
