Up early and went for our walk. Fortunately before it really started to rain. Off to work again this morning. Had a successful day yesterday.

My wife and I are flying to Florida this Saturday morning with her sister and husband for a weeks vacation. Every year they treat us. They are Disney Vacation Club members and get some sort of a deal. Wouldn't you know it that they are calling for 6 inches of snow Friday night into Saturday morning! Come on Winter! Enough already!

Tried to catch up on some sleep today, it didn't work very well. Oh well. I feel pretty good, so I got enough. My son and I just finished moving in a face cord of firewood, that should get us through another week or more.

I know a lot of folks talk about their diets and weight loss and exercise issues here. I have been on a "no white" diet since late July last year. I lost 42 lbs between Jul-Dec. I also have been faithful at going to the pool for exercising three to four times a week, 45 min. to 90 min. each time. I had my lipids checked last week. My total cholesterol is 139, My Triglycerides are 133, my LDL (the bad stuff) is 79 and my LDL/HDL ratio is 3.5 (optimal) I eat meat, eggs, and I eat bacon and the fat on it. I don't eats sweets of any kind,. I try hard to eat my veggies and at least three fruits. I also eat until I am not hungry. I am avoiding processed foods esp. fats. I eat honey, and maple syrup. My fasting blood sugar is 87. I'm 70 and I have horrid arthritis, severely overweight, (that will change). Now that I have stuck to this diet, I can pass up chips, candy etc. and not feel too deprived about it. Lots of other things to eat. The big pay off has been increased mobility, endurance, not depressed, and a better attitude.
I would like to tell everyone to get moving, one way or other, and watch what you put in your mouth. Whatever your grandparents ate, most likely is the best.

4 days off. First day off since December and boy do I need it. Going to work on the mud room the next couple days and then pour a sidewalk at the in-laws Saturday.

An I nteresting story I once watched on TV about people who live the longest, took the reporters to one place where they spoke to the general population about why they believed they lived the longest. They had a simple routine about eating. They generally did not eat until full. But only about 80%, enough to be content. Then got up from the table and went about their business.

This is what I have to do more of. I have noticed that when I leave myself still a little hungry instead of eating until full I actually have more energy. If I eat until I'm full, or not hungry, I then am ready to lounge around and/or take a nap!  (Nothing wrong with a nap every now and then, but the food doesn't get burned off much!LOL)

I try to do the 80% rule more now.

sounds like a great plan I could pass on chips if I had bacon! I could live without sugar but not maple syrup! I mean that's a food group!

    great job save

Next Thursday I'll be in Chicago for a seminar/ conference on our works operating software. It'll be an all day thing. Leave the house at 6am and back at 7 pm I would guess. Unless we stop at a bar on the way home.

Yesterday was my dad's 73rd birthday, so I had to cut my truck shopping journey short to get on a conference call with my parents, and two brothers from all ends of the country.

I eat the bacon, and now and then have honey and maple syrup. only the locally produced stuff. Here is a comment on real maple syrup. "Real maple syrup is healthier than fake syrup. It contains nutritionally significant amounts of manganese and zinc, minerals that can boost immune and reproductive health, as well as potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium, and riboflavin. Imitation syrup is mainly composed of sugars with no vitamins or minerals." Move real honey and maple syrup into the good guys column.

Good for you. I really missed the walking after my surgery and sure enough, I gained weight. Hopefully now I can get back at it. Cutting out processed foods is a really good step towards better food quality.

Over a foot forcast for my area. On top of that, it is supposed to be a very heavy, wet snow :headbang:

Exactly! My favorite meal is during the weekend when I make scrambled eggs (3) with breakfast sausage stirred in. Add real butter and plenty of maple syrup and I'm in heaven. Plain or vanilla yogurt with maple syrup stirred in is great. Straight peanut butter with maple syrup is a good snack, bowl of plain cheerios (or chex - either corn or rice) with light cream and maple syrup etc. etc. etc.

    Great job!
