Its a mild oc here and I have two big splits of larch and one big split of lodgepole pine in the stove. We have a long spring shoulder season here so no end to the burning season for awhile yet.
Mid 40's, re-fired the owb last evening with a small pile of well seasoned elm and a couple uglies of ash.
36 here and no fire this AM as the house was still (relatively) warm from yesterday. Temps heading up to 50 this afternoon, so I bumped on the oil fired forced hot air for 10 minutes. Looking at 6" of snow this weekend, we'll see what what we get.
It didn't warm up for chit today. Weather channel says it 41. Thermometer on my back porch says it 33. And the wind is blowing a bit.More than ready for spring to get here. When is the first day of spring again? Ash and Maple in the boiler.
I think it was slightly above freezing this morning, and sitting around +5 C (40 F) at the moment. Let the oil furnace fire a few times, and solar gain keeping the shack warm enough for the time being. I'm not even gonna say what I'll burn later.
Burning a little maple and ash right now just to take the chill off. It's going to be nice tomorrow but Friday into Saturday we've got a few inches of snow coming our way!
Do you burn Willow Bill? I have a couple of large branches I took down and wondered if I should just block them up and split them and use it next spring's shoulder season or not. I haven't heard much good about it.
Someone on FHC had mentioned we're never out of the woods regarding a snowstorm until after the first week of April, I guess she or he was correct.
I've only burned willow once. My dad and I cut down a weeping willow in his back yard because my baby sister was allergic to it. Had to go. Plus it got full of little black bugs every year. It had its feet in the cesspool not too far away because that stump bled grey stinky cesspool water for weeks. I remember trying to split it. Wet. Same cesspool smell and grey goop. I don't remember it being much better than the cedar and pine we burned at the time.
