the mrs and I are looking into the castleton for upstairs. We have a Manchester in the basement and love it. But wanted something upsatairs to help out. Was wondering if anyone has or had one and their thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated
Good looking stove.... I wasn't familiar with it and if anyone else isn't, here's a link. CASTLETON 8030 | Wood Stoves | Hearthstone Stoves
I bought a new one last fall .I'm in NH and hasn't been an absolute freezing winter but definitely had some really cold single digit stretches and mostly teens all winter i have heated only with my castleton.my Home is well insulated and well built 1000 sqft home. I run it full time all day at and night around 375-400 degrees.ive burned around 3 cord of 1 year seasoned oak and mixed in ash as well and house stays around 75-78 gets will get to 80 when it's a really cranking.I'd like a bigger fire box for longer burn tine but I'd be pushed outa my house if it got any hotter! Overall I think its a great stove and it also looks very nice! Definitely recommend it
Thanks for the input. I'd like a bigger one for upstairs too but I think it would push us out as well. Now she's looking at the shelburne. Uuuuuggggghhhhh. Lol
We've had one for about three years. It's installed in our family room. Our first floor is an open layout and is about 1,250 sq ft. The stove provides plenty of warmth for the first floor in a well insulated house. It's a good looking stove and heats well. We love it!!
Our main floor is about that size. Do you have to run it hot? I'd like to maintain about 70 ish degrees.
Once I get it up to temp and burning good, I usually throttle the air back to keep a nice, steady fire burning. This keeps the glass clean, burning "clean" (I make sure to use dry, aged wood) and toasty warm. We've had to open windows a crack from tine to time though. Once that soapstone gets warm, it provides a very steady heat. We really like it.
Mmjhunter very familiar with hearthstone.. good company, quality product been to their factory many times.. unfortunately I am not familiar with the castleton.. several good friends have Mansfield.. like soapstone.. like product.. usually have some good prices at factory this time of year in scratch and dent sale.. I almost bought one ... I wanted a catalytic converter not the burn tubes... so I went with a woodstock.. just my personal preference.. if ya come up to get it.. let me know... factory about half hour from house..
I wasn't aware I could buy from factory. Might be a good excuse to take a road trip with the bride. If we do I'll let ya know
