Have had years like that, driveway gets pretty narrow !

Today they decide if the Iditarod starts from Willow or has to go to Fairbanks.
They've been drilling the river ice to see if an ice grinder can make snow on the ice & get them from Willow to Skwentna safely.
Fairbanks start, one other time in the 90s I think.

1/16" of snow might make the difference

Ya, I remember the race but not the year. A sad state of affairs for sure as it just does not seem like the Iditarod starting in Fairbanks and following the river. But, the race has to go on.

Decided today to start in Willow
    http://iditarod.com/official-message-on-iditarod-xlii-restart-in-willow/

    Rivers are bare, slippery ice.
Plan is to make an overland trail along side the Yetna R to Skwentna .
Once in Rainy Pass, lots of snow.

It's been a great year for snow and cold here in Wisconsin. Just picked up another 6" yesterday. I have 26" on the ground now, had to plow my yard to move it off the driveway. Ice fishing sucks because you can't get out unless you have a snowmobile. Then you need an auger extension to get through the 30" of ice. Can't get into the woods to cut wood. Propane shortages...

To top it all off. Frost is so deep in the ground. Water utilities are having everyone run water 24/7 to prevent services from freezing.

And I love winter... Separates the men from the boys.

You remind me of taking my son (12 yrs old) out of school years ago, to go to our old family camp on Webb Lake here in Maine. Flat roof. Snow was around 3' deep and very dense on the roof. We had weather coming and it was obvious, the decision to get there and get the weight off was a good one. Told my son to always stay over the walls and not get anywhere near the middle of the roof, in case it let go. We whittled away around the outside, and got it off. We also had a lot of fun…

That night, and the next day, Maine got hit with "hot water" rain and gas station canopies / flat roofs collapsed all over the state. Water's weight on top of snow is a lot more than "the straw that breaks the camel's back"… it's the camel herd too. o_O

I can see you are really wanting some snow up there Dave. Hope you get some. We will get another 1-3" today and about the same tomorrow from what they are saying. We just had 9" last Thurday/Friday. The plow truck just went by again. I know those drivers must be getting tired of plowing snow. Between that and salting/sanding they are putting in some long hours. Extra money from the O.T. I'm sure, but still tiring.

I here ya there raybonz. Suppose to get close to 45° here on Friday and 70% chance of rain. I hope the folks in the low lying areas don't get flooding.

Don't know what time it stopped, but we only got 3" of snow last night.
That'll make it easier to plow.....once I get the tractor going.

Have had PLENTY that we don't need any more.
I think Dave keeps forgetting that we had close to 3ft on the ground before it melted.
Wore out the cutting edge on a shovel and had to clear off the roofs.. Which isn't that usual.

Thanks, it's rough sawn shiplap pine boards stained a deep cedar. ..started with a lighter shade in '79 but we've gone slightly darker over the years.

Been snowing here all day, gotta be another 8 or 9 inches on top all we've had recently. Great skiing! :)

    That's the spirit.
When 8" of new snow make you smile, winter is a lot more fun :)

I should not have commented. My dad's tractor shed roof collapsed today. Best part of the story is we were going to replace it this year. Now insurance can help! Always look for the silver lining!!

I raked my roof tonight. 5-12" coming Thursday. Then back to negative temps. You can take winter back anytime Dave. Can't wait till maple syrup, hopefully it's not in July!

Been single digits or below all winter here. Snow cover the entire winter. Thursday, it is supposed to hit 50. 44 today, everything is melting and the ground is frozen solid way down deep. So, the melt and the water is going nowhere! I have water running in my wood shed. Quite frankly, I prefer the winter. This fast thaw is going to reap havoc. On top of that it is supposed to rain Thursday. Then back to winter.
