Color variations are from that giant Crack that started to center rot. Looks like the lighter colored stuff is normal. Maybe basswood?
I am in the Maple camp. Bark is not Cherry. My experience with elm, unless Slippery Elm is different, it is stringy when split. Looks like you have clean splits.
Actually pretty stringy. The bark is reddish-orange and stringy just inside the outer-most layer. Smell is pleasant, havent smelled wood like this before. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
At least some of the pictures look like elm. I've had plenty that split like heck, but almost as much split like maple and just pop apart with no effort.
