My electric usage for February of this year was 431 kWh. Last year in February I used almost 1400 kWh of electrics. Last year was use of the main electric force air furnace for the lounge and kitchen set to about 55F; Mum's room and my room was shut off. I used an oil filled electric heater in my little office and in my bathroom heating them to roughly 72F for comfort. I used almost a thousand kWh less this past February and that means a big difference in my electric costs; I can't give figures without checking but I know I use to have some large bills during the winter months. Not only am I am warmer; currently the lounge is 82F, but I am saving money and not worrying so much. It will get down to 19F tonight but I will be warm and cozy in my home.

Now that is a big time saver and you are comfortable too. A real winner. I'm also with you as we keep the house around 80 most of the time. I want to be comfortable in my home when lightly dressed. I refuse to wear long underwear in my house! And I just can not imagine having a thermostat set to 55 degrees in winter time. Shoot, when we stayed in a tent in below zero weather we kept the tent warmer than that.

It makes you feel sorry for those folks who have to heat with old-fashioned stuff like propane and electricity. Burn baby burn!

Good to hear. No doubt you're saving on heat but keep in mind the differences in temperatures. At least here, February was really warm compared to last year.

That is true; however, keep in mind the electric forced air furnace really spins the meter. I have the furnace set to 48F and it has yet to come on this winter even in the coldest nights. I left around 2 pm yesterday and let the fire go out. When I returned home last night around 9 pm I decided it was too late to build a fire and the house was at 72F in the main room. It got cold last night but the main room was at 60 F this morning. Today is going to be warm; I did build a fire this morning but I have to venture out again so will let the fire die out and build one when I return.
