It was Saint Patrick's day yesterday and I'm guessing the end of the rainbow landed in my front yard. Heard a noise and there was a guy wearing green dumping an entire truckload of wood in the front yard. All red oak. Must have been the luck of the Irish yesterday.

I talked to the owner last year when they were across the street trimming a huge maple. Said he would drop wood sometime. Last week he saw me outside and pulled in. Told me he's gonna be by next week.

Pieces are about 8 feet long and almost all are over 18 inches. Pics are hard to judge. It was nice out yesterday so I did a little cutting. The pile I made is 16 feet long and 3 feet high. That's maybe about 1/3rd of the wood. I'm guessing it will split out to about 2 cords. 036 on the pile of rounds for reference. As well as a 60 inch cant hook and a 65 pound boxer dog.

I don't think I had to give them anything but I had 30 bucks on me so I gave it to them. 30 bucks for 2 cords of oak seems like a good deal to me. It costs them 150 to 200 to dump at the wood dump.

Having good wood delivered to you is certainly a great way to go! Nice to make connections with tree service folks and even better when it works out like this!

I'd trade a cord of my oak for maple at this point. I've fell into a lot of oak this past month and even though I'm working on my 3 year plan it's gonna leave me weak for next year. 3 years from now however it will be great.

Nice freebie, I can almost smell that from here! My lot is about a half acre square, med December I CS&S about 3 cords of red oak, and it would smell like vomit on the complete opposite corner of the property when I would get out of my car some days.

Nothing sets the mood when youre in the hot tub with the missus at night like the smell of red oak!

I definitely don't like the smell of fresh cut or split red oak. Some people love it. Then again I like the smell of gasoline and freshly run over skunk

I love the smell of red oak! Of course, I also love the smell of burning willow so maybe I'm weird. :)

You could lumber some of those big logs and get your money back with a profit. Capitalism and Wood seems to go together. :dex:
