Im pretty much on track this year. Here is a 2 minute video that almost wraps up the bulk of my firewooding.
Wow very nice! Picture perfect stacks! Beautiful property! Have a campsite I can rent while working at Moraine all summer?
Be right back, think I have to go change my shorts . Simply gorgeous.....flat out jealous, not sure I have seen so much firewood stacked and stored. I'd also give anything to have a property of that size, my dream!
You And me both! Not to mention the toys he's got to play with! The space is his advantage,Nothing shy of a great place for wood since it gets a good spot on a clearing. Im going to just gather the wind could be fierce at times, bet it dries out his stacks in optimal time!
There's not as much there as it looks really, all single row. I will measure it tomorrow but probably only 7 or 8 cords. Since I have the room I really like the single row stacks. Seems to dry better and quicker, less snakes, squirrels, mice and other critters building nests like you see when you have the stacks up against one another. That cherry will be ready this coming winter. It dries fast. Where I stack gets great sun and wind exposure as well.
I dont have alot of knowledge on hardwoods, is that cherry wood from a fruit tree or is there subspecies that get bigger than the fruit bearing variety? I ask cause ive never seen a cherry tree that had more than a 1/4 cord of wood in it.
That is technically black cherry, not the fruit tree. This cherry is pretty good firewood, dries fast, good BTU not quite as good as your oaks though. Here in PA we have lots of Cherry. It's beautiful for furniture making. I live in Western Pa. and the best Cherry on planet earth is just North of me maybe 70 or 80 miles. They grow like telephone poles 2' and 3' in diameter up there. It's just a great area for it. Combination of elevation, soil sitting right on top of sand rock, climate etc. I don't know why but it's just great up there. Good in most parts of Pa. but that Northwest corner is the best. As a matter of fact I think Kane Pa is called Black Cherry Capital of the World lol
tamarack This is a picture of a cherry tree that is good for milling or firewood. This one got cut up for firewood. This was about 60 feet.
