Haven't been on here in a bit. Anyway...my towns street department was cutting down trees a few houses down from me. I told them I would take all the wood they were cutting. Guy said call the head of the department! I told him that he had already said no last year! He said their was a new head of the department! Bingo!!! He said I could go to the city's dump site and cut anything I want!! It's a wood mountain out there!!!! Nice thing is only a few people cut out there. Now I'm running out of room, so selling a few cords to make room and make a little cash!

    Good score!

Exercise a bit of caution though.....once you start making money by selling it, people get a little green and the new department head may institute the old policy. Then you'll be out of your nest egg!

Yeah I don't really care so much about the money just need the space. I know what you mean about stepping on toes. Too many tree guys around here selling wood who need the money more than I! Only selling around 5-6 cord worth. To me its not worth all the hassle for a $50 load of wood. I'm trying to get a little money around for a garage too.

Every bit helps. I'm not chastising you for selling it, I'm just thinking that people find something to complain about once they see someone "getting ahead" (sorta) and start to ask questions and point fingers and end up ruining a good thing.

I'm thinking I would do the same thing that you're doing.

At this point where there are not many people cutting at the site/dump, I would load up as much as I could too. Remember, once you run out of room, pile higher! Just like New York City once they started running out of room for buildings....HIGHER!

It is always nice to have place that you can go to and get all the wood you want and make a little money too. Nice.

Ill post pics on Friday of my new cuttin grounds! I live in town and can't store too much here. Most all of my wood is stored at a friends house.....and yes I stack high and deep. Back stack is around 7' high and 7 rows deep, but I guess if there's space to walk there's a space for wood:) SAM_0099.JPG SAM_0086_1.jpg
