By about noon it was up to 22 degrees, and the sun was warm enough that thawed my yard in a few spots. I didnt have time to go and get any wood, I just did some storm prep work instead. Normal stuff, fueled the truck and gas cans, put the plow on the truck, put it up on jackstands to get a tire fixed....and replaced the steering column. Still need to bring the generator out of the shed and put it in the basement for just in case.
It was 43F here today and all I wanted to do was sit by the fire; the only times going outside was to fetch wood.
I enjoy being out in the cold. I find the air fresh and invigorating. And when I say I get a delivery of logs, I do pay for them. Sent from my XT1030 using Tapatalk
Where are you Kimberly? About the same temp here today. It's kinda embarrassing when I mention how "cold" it is here when some of these guys are sending pics of snow and gale force winds at 5 and 6 degrees lol.
If you have any wind protection where you split, try it when it is "only" 43ºF outside. I bet you will discover what we already know. It can get warm in a hurry when you are swinging that maul. I freeze on the way to my splitting area but 5 minutes later the jacket is usually off.
I have been to Mount Airy a few times; home to Andy Griffith. I have a photo of me standing with Andy and Opie (the statue). We often drive up to the parkway and then down the parkway getting off on the road to Cana Va to the produce markets; then down to Mount Airy. There are not as many produce market as their use to be; the small Mom and Pop places are all gone it seems and the larger commercial ones are not as "real". It makes for a nice fall trip. Have been to both the Autumn Leaves festival and the Mayberry Days Festival although have not been in several years; might try to go next year.
It helps to be dressed correctly for the cold and it also helps if you keep moving. Went out in the woods this afternoon looking for downed trees from the wind th e other day and found a couple hung up maples one needs a saw mounted on the end of a ten foot pole, but we'll see with another look tomorrow. Needed to have waterproof boots on to get a closer look.
No cutting yesterday, but it was for a good cause. Wife's grandfather had an impromptu birthday get together at the nursing home. Wasn't too upset.. Wind stayed hard enough to keep Old Glory horizontal all day. Cold I don't mind, but a steady wind blows a ton of chips into the old lungs and eyes. Will be digging these logs out when I find time for them with the snow on deck for tomorrow.
