Been laid up this weekend fighting a cold. It honestly had some ups and downs. Saturday consisted of this... I' ve collected a bunch of this wood (made other trips after work to collect but not on this scale) because it routinely has some kind of pile that is either too rotten or not suitable for building. With that being said, this is perfect for my spring/Summer/Fall supply if it even makes it that far. This is all lumber yard giveaways barely 5 mins from my house so I always check.
This was today... you can see where Im piling it up in the box to the left. Not all of it splits easy but once I get the rythym on, it goes well. I split about that much and called it a night. I figured I spent most of my weekend on my azz, get some Work in while there's break in the weather(its been absolutely drenched here in Wetstern WA). All Douglas fir wood, untreated!!!! Makes perfect for fires. There's also a great 4 letter word about this wood that doesn't make me ask questions: FREE. Happy Burning!
Free is good, great bonfire material there. You can always throw on a couple pieces of hardwood when it comes time for cooking, no?
Nah they put that stuff in a bin outside the lumber yard fence so people can help themselves after hours. No risk involved except possible cars coming from behind me since its on a road between some apts. really accessible though. Im just thankful for the resources and I cleaned up any mess after I was finished. I might even offer to get the strapping and "fiberplastic" covering that is usual with lumber wood.
Construction lumber cutoffs burn great. I scrounged the dumpsters when they were building the McMansions next door. Your helper appears to be enjoying the time out.
Oh.... Well that was training a future wood hoarder. Papa School style Shhh her mother knows but maybe not to the extent. Barely took me 20 mins to fill the car up so Im lucky to have the space not be too large. It kind of helps to control the amount I put in unless I use the trailer. Then that's ok.
that's awesome ! good Papa. my little girls love to come with me. the 3 year old usually falls asleep with the Ipad in her hands. 7 year old just tosses twigs around
Ok...those devises are fantastic sources of information, education and entertainment (look I'm using one right now) what I protest is the "habit" of them and the reliance upon them that we cultivate at such a young age---soon instead of looking at trees in the woods it will be online....I can't stay sidelined on this topic....sorry...meantime keep getting the scrounge---good work!
Well this one doesn't wear shoes that often, in fact they dont stay on long enough for me to feel comfortable with her walking sround in that mess likely full of nails.
That reminds me, I should find some better pieces for cooking especially if I can find a way to get a good bbq out in the backyard for that matter. Some cinders sound like a good idea but thats another story.
