Yep… while driving on those 6 lanes of insanity traffic… just say to yourself, over and over… "I don't live in the city anymore"… :D :axe::campfire:

Billy Goat Tavern on lower Michigan? I think my wife had to many Horny Goats (a drink) there one night!:)
If you have never been there you could go to the top of the Hancock tower or Sears Tower. I always liked walking around at nite taking pictures.
House of Blues? Museum of Science and Industry, Museum of Art, Museum of Natural History, Shedd Aquarium?
Just too much to do there!

I don't care much for Chicago so coming from me it would be go around. Not much of a city fan and hate traffic so it's out for me.

Museum of Science and Industry is great, and see the U2 submarine. Field museum has one of the best dinosaur exhibits.

We always hit a pizza place. Too many to list and also dependent on where you will be in Chicago.

Great ideas! Thanks. The wife is going to a conference for work, and I thought I'd tag along. We'll be staying on Michigan & E. Wacker. Gonna meet a cousin for dinner Friday night, and she'll be in the conference all day Saturday, so I'll get to be unsupervised and wandering. The Museum of Science & Industry sounds right up my alley. I'm a musician, so at first the House of Blues peaked my interest, but after reading the 'rules' I will probably opt out.

I'm not a fan of crowds or big cities either, and I grew up in a chitty part of town, and went to an equally chitty school, so I can handle my own. I do always carry a knife, and would be more than happy to fillet a femoral artery if need be, but I would prefer to avoid that. I also learned at a early age that my mouth could be my worst enemy, so I've learned to fix that. I've got the teeth and facial x-rays to remind me :emb:

Given that you are going to do the touristy things and will be downtown with a conference, I'd stay in and around the loop area with the Sears Tower observatory, the Signature room on the 95th of the Hancock, Science and Industry Museum, Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium, Navy Pier (not so much this time of year), or any number of restaurants near the loop. If you venture north, there's a lot of restaurants in Lincoln Park or Lakeview (Wrigley) neighborhoods.

Shootings are only a concern on the south side. Stay north and you'll be fine.

Chicago is a city with the nice areas north and the rougher areas to the west and in the south.
