GTG at the Backwood Savage home on April 22. Please let us know if you plan on coming. Just make a post and say if you are coming or send me a private conversation. Hopefully all who attended last year will be back along with many more. We have a little over 40 acres to roam on and if some wish to wander a bit on ours and some of the neighbors there should be no problem. We plan on some felling, bucking, skidding, splitting and whatever. I think we may have some saw sharpening going on this year too. Last year Shawn Curry even gave a demonstration on cutting lumber. We cut trees and logs from our property plus some from a neighbor’s. We hope to have at least 3 log splitters. Most of the wood we’ll be working with will be rather small but we may have a few larger logs too. There will be plenty of food and drink. More information will be coming on this. Naturally if anyone wishes to bring a favorite dish or drink, please feel free to do so. As with last year, we are not coffee drinkers so someone needs to provide coffee and coffee pot or pots. Someone may have this covered but we’re not sure. We’ll be having a bon fire going for most of the time for 2 or 3 days and a place to hide should it decide to rain. Not only members are welcome but also their friends, relatives, wives, girlfriends and even dogs. On the dogs, we do ask that if someone has dogs that like to run wild, we would like you to keep a handle on them. Last year we had no problems, but we do have lots of deer in this area and would not want to see dogs running deer (in this area those types tend to get lead poisoning). Also my wife does not want any dogs in the house. In addition, turkey season will be on. Although no turkey hunters will be on our place, there may be some on neighboring property. The season was on last year too and caused zero problems. There will be some ATV’s, UTV’s, perhaps some golf carts and maybe a tractor or two. No doubt someone will be using our ATV (700 Yamaha) for skidding logs or hauling wood or whatever or I may be running around on it doing whatever. Bring chain saws and any logging tools you have as others may wish to see what you have and can gather ideas for their own use. We’ll try to have some extra gas and oil for the saws and if need be we don’t have to go far to get more. Although the date is April 22, should some wish to come early you are very welcome. The same goes for staying late. We have room to park campers and/or set up tents or tipis. If someone requires electric we can also accommodate. You can fill with water when you get here if you wish and I think you can probably dump rv tanks before leaving if you need to. Naturally we’ll also have an outdoor toilet or possibly two. Last year we had some come on Thursday and some stayed until Sunday. We can accommodate some sleeping in the house but it would be best if you plan on doing so to bring an air mattress and sleeping bag or blankets and pillows. We do have a couple of sleeping bags (which I had forgot about last year). We can fix extra meals for those who plan on staying more than just that Saturday. If you plan on coming with an RV, please let us know ahead of time. The same goes for those who plan on coming early. Last year we had a sudden hatching of black flies so be forewarned. They weren’t bad last year though as DexterDay seemed to draw most of them to himself. Mosquitoes usually do not hatch until mid-May here. If anyone wants to take some wood home with them, feel free go out and knock down a tree or two (but ask first, please) and take it. If someone wants some wood that they don’t have at their place and we have some, let us know. Perhaps if someone wants some help with tree ID, there will be some good people here to help out on this. So come one and come all to the GTG in Michigan and we’ll all have a grand time. Here is part of the group from last year.
Hey! There's wemin there! And the dawgs aren't fighting! And everybody is dressed up! What kinda party is that? Just a little over a month away now!
And we still won't see you there! Unless you dress up or act like a ninja or something... heck, we got a PA TurboNinja already signed up! PS- j/k Yoop
If I were to say yes, I probably only be trying to convince myself. Sure would like to meet the "master" though....you know, the guy who all bow to??
I wonder if I can drag Ray out with me. I'd guess a full day each way and a day and half there. hmmm, something to think about
I'm in... Counting down the days now!!! Got a new rig since last year's GTG. So I'll be bringing either a Quad (Rubicon 500 4 x 4) or a side by side (Kawasaki Tyrex 4 x 4). Which ever would be more helpful. And my 440 EX to ride with the neighbor across the street!!
I would love to come but I just booked a week long road trip for the week before. Can't spend that much time away from home unless it pays bills. Y'all have fun and be safe...And drink a beer for me.
Would love to finally meet the Gas!! Come on brotha! Make it to my place in Ohio and ride into Michigan with me!!!
