My cousin's 041 AV quit when a friend of his was using it last week. It kinda looks like a straight gas deal to me, but I'm new to this. I didn't have a camera since I left my phone at home. Hopefully I can describe it well enough. Exhaust side of piston has some scoring and the ring is stuck on exhaust side only. Cylinder feels great, no chunks missing, looks to be a film of aluminum from the skirts. Where there are no skirts, you can still see cross hatching. Inside of cylinder is very clean, no carbon looks to be a light gray in color. There doesn't seem to be very much oil on the crank. Not much oil residue on the piston either. I texted my cousin to see if he can get me some pics. When I get them I'll post them.
I'd think it was straight gas it would be really bad. I guess he could have possibly not had enough mix in the gas. I'm gonna guess and say that it was lean from an air leak or it was not getting enough fuel.
What kind of success has there been salvaging cylinders? Took me a while to figure out how to open the attachment. I agree with you. Thanks for the PDF.
I've had 4 cylinders with transfer and none of them were salvageable. They were far worse than that cylinder. I think there is a very good chance it will clean up. here are a couple of videos on how to clean up transfer. Did your parts come in for your 362?
Yes, but 4-H (Shooting Sports) has kicked off and we had an uncle pass that required travel. Kinda got put on the back burner. Hopefully this week.
That looks more like a lean condition caused from a air leak. Straight gassed are usually much worse than that. In many cases of straight gas the piston would be scored on the intake and exhaust side both.
I have a feeling all the rubber and seals are original and it's had ethanol run in it on a regular basis.
