Horkn BigPapi and NH mountain man, You guys mentioned an ugly pile. Pictures? Anyone posted a thread of I swear most of my wood are plug uglies as they are often what you might consider either crotch pieces, random blocks that aren't square (redwood)and then the above ground roots that have slightly rotted out(black locust) but its also just squiggly branches wrist sized. Its happily burned no less! But makes it a crap and a half to split since theres an inevitable pinch spot for the maul. I guess I just need to work on figuring how to cut them since splitting them is out of the question.
g60gti sorry I saw something that seemed interesting for a thread and used that for a topic. You got a great story here I like how you worked in the beer idea even though it didnt quite come to fruition. Im not sure how well the tree services around here would be willing to do what yours do. But I figure if that is the CASE, Im willing to try sometime! Seriously kudos to your wife, Thats something men kinda dream to have since ladies like a lawn to have. Hope the cutting and splitting has gone well! :stacke:
Exactly. If I can get 2 cord of primo stuff, I will. But no miss than that until I get the shed built. I'll bring the ATV over here for the migration of the driveway stack to the shed.
No problem, don't mind at all. Most of the bigger services don't want to mess with firewood or even selling it by the ton to the mulch man. The faster and more jobs they get done with minimal amount of dicking around the bigger profit. Most will at leas let you come and grab some from a job site while they're taking a break and not working, some will drop it right off if it's close. Beer never hurts to make that happen either. Cutting and splitting has gotten as far as you see in that last picture, so not great so far. Little at a time, hopefully have that c/s/s by end of April.
I burned almost all of it, but have plenty of rounds and branches to make the next one once splitting season comes. (Too much mud now, and I am working on a couple scores first.) Will get pics next time.
Going to order a pickaroon this week. Every serious wood guy I know say it's the most useful tool that they own.
What I did last year was bring my trailer to their landscape yard. They had a full truck full of rounds so I took advantage of that but they were super wet. So loading logs from a massive truck down to a little trailer was a huge difference in placement but no fees were involved and I did the work myself so Im proud of that but I wish I could have done more too. There was so much wood to be had. 3-4 cords in one truck.
