There are several sides to this story and some stink and some don't stink so much. This is part of the addiction right!!!????
Parents have a pile of wood that I have neglected to split with reason. Theres a spruce pine that (I believe!) (I believe that if you have a spruce pine you have the chittiest wood due to all smoke and no fire) this stuff has more pitch balls on the tree than I care to count and putting this in any burning vessel is pure crap since its smokes and just hard to enjoy. I took some other pine that was good and helpfully stacked it in my parents woodbin since that is often never refilled. Again I find my zen in this. Its natural.

Story side number two: the picture involved my cutting a downed cherry that was half rotten(on the ground) and other half has been sticking out like a sore thumb between my parents property and neighbors. Neighbor tried cutting it apart but saw died and it was just sticking out for years(hey I asked him he was fine with me getting it cut up)
Finally had the gumption to just fuel my addiction here and took whatever was not on the ground and put it on the ground! Anyone spot something in the car?...

Do you have a baby at home?
OK, maybe you mean the busted axe handle.

Yes I do have a daughter haha and yes the Axe! This axe has been cutting for greater part of 20 years. Served as a camping axe and always thrown in the camping rig and never really looked after. Now today I took one whack and split one round and took another and boom ! The axe looked like someone just snapped their ankle off and just hanging by threads. The rot was apparent. :emb:
So now not only do I get to enjoy some btu's but I will gladly replace that ax handle. I just picked up a hickory handle and looking forward to sanding it, oiling it etc... maybe I better start a new thread elsewhere on this subject.

I doubt my dad would recognize it. He winters in Arizona so a little beautification of his axe will give me an appreciation. Father's day springs to mind. Now question is... will my daughter repeat her father?

Don't get me wrong some pine is great and clean but i made the mistake of putting this firewood in a burning fire on a 4th of July. It looked like I had put 100 smoke bombs in. Terrible. The amount of creosote that this would have lined a chimney would likely choke it. Ive burned all kinds of pine but we're talking sap that is oozing out of any part of the tree branches and some collected so thick you could pry off balls the size of mandarin oranges. There's just a line I decided to draw here. I should have mentioned it was half bug eaten so just half worth burning on the beach the other half...well I'm not so sure I want to burn it.
