Buddy sent me a photo of this fallen tree in his yard. Anyone know what kind of wood this is? I'm a bit of a beginner on wood ID. Sorry for it being so far away.

Can't get a good look at it but it "could be an oak" by the darker color bark. Its some kind of hard wood! But it's fire wood now! :dex::yes::thumbs::cool:

    Could be a white oak.
Hard to tell, but if it's free it's probably worth it.
Is he taking the whole thing down?

Sorry - it's the one on the ground already. Says it's the third tree recently that's fell - so wouldn't be surprised if the other one fell too!

It does look like an oak of some sort. It still has dead leaves on it, and around here, the only trees that still have some of their dead leaves still attached are beech and oak, and that definitely doesn't look like a beech.

Lots of red oaks are dieing off here the last 10 years. Some uproot, but most just snap over

With that bark, I'm pretty sure it's not oak if any color.
