I remembered to take the camera but almost forgot to take the picture so the trailer was partially unloaded. But what is the first for me is that I took this wood from the barn and put it back in the outdoor wood pile! In February! Last fall I feared we'd have a hard winter so even though we don't have a lot of oak, I put more than normal in the barn for use this winter. This entire load was oak and there is still probably one more load I'll remove from the barn as it simply is not needed this winter. Even though I removed this, there is still plenty of wood to last the rest of the winter. Wow! It appears we will burn even less wood this year than we did last year. This is amazing to think back over the years and compare with how it has been for the last 10 years. Seems we need less and less wood every year. This also brings to mind that I was on the porch at sunset tonight and although we don't get to watch sunsets very often here, it struck me that the sun doesn't need to move much more and it will be setting straight west! When it happens, that means we are half way between the start of winter and the start of summer (in 3 more weeks).
The first official day of spring (spring equinox) is indeed just three weeks away, Dennis! It won't be long and other people will be finding those delicious morel mushrooms. I will get skunked again, as usual, and say something like "Maybe next year". As a lifelong Lions fan, if there is one thing I know how to do, it is to "look forward to next year".
Yea, it's been warm here too. I look at it this way, I like the cold but God has his way with the ebbs n flows of life so I ain't gonna argue with that. I burned about a cord n .half . I finally got to burn that white oak I picked up 3 years ago. Burns very nice. I didn't burn so much so far, so I look at it as a little bit of work saved.
Awww, that's so sweet of you to say. The way things are going right now, I don't think that'll happen. Although....never say never. You're right Dennis. I keep looking in the shed, expecting to see much less firewood, yet there it is. I don't think we've even used 3 cord so far.
I'm sure you're a busy fella, shopping for all the popcorn and such.....but hey- it's a 9 1/2 hour drive for me, so there's that. Mind you, not trying to suggest a guilt trip, just a GTG trip. KWIS?
Kind of nice when you are still on the three year plan after burning all winter and not collecting anything. I am only through 1/3 of the wood that I stacked in 2013. It has 3 summers on it and is as dry as it can get.
This warm weather is a great opportunity not only to build up the amount in the stacks, but also the quality. Use up the junk. No need to burn the good stuff- as warm as it has been I could probably get away with a load of pine cones every other night.
I can count on 2 hands how many times I've used oak this year. It's been poplar,maple, cherry for me and its done the job
We've probably burnt 6 cord, we usually burn 10-12. I try to use up the softer woods during the warmer days since it tends to be harder to come by. This year we still have at least 4 cord leftover in our burnable wood, a lot of it is hardwood. I can't remember using this little wood in a season.
