Hey ladies and gents, Actually that gave me pause but another topic. Anyways I have some wood to identify. I have some inklings but would rather get a few chip-ins if possible. Unfortunately this is board wood cut offs so a true look at the whole thing isnt possible. But I can tell you its heavy and what looks to be coated in some kind of wax, (Anchorseal?) have a look... I picked these through my local lumber box. So they aren't much bigger than a large harmonica box but dense wood means something. I doubt ive hit a motherlode but theres lots of it, so I wanted to make sure it was ok. Doesn't smell treated but its wet for sure.
This is what I thought too. The trade off here is wondering what i should do with it. I have a nice tote of this already but honestly Im not sure if its good for me to hold onto it or not. Seriously being on the feasible side I could turn these into nice knife scales or wait for them to be good firewood. They are really only about as long as my hand and anywhere from 2-4 inches wide. Not much for a project on a large scale
I'm not very crafty with things like that. I'm sure there are better things for it other than firewood. Start a thread in the sawyer room and you will probably get some good ideas.
It's definitely an 'exotic'. If you're saying it's 2-4" wide and as long as your hand, they may be decking cutoffs. Probably ipe', judging from the grain and color. It's probably not good for much but firewood. It would be outstanding for knife scales though if it is ipe' or a similar exotic.
