State tree service has been working locally dealing with problem trees around powerlines - this big red oak was dropped about 3 weeks ago - about 1/2 mile from my house. Stopped by the owners house and asked if I could have it - yep! Measured about 36" diameter at the stump and stayed big for a long time - smallest rounds were still over 12". Stump makes the 372 with 24" bar look pretty small! Got it all bucked today and will work with my neighbor with his tractor and F250 to haul it home. Will likely quarter it (at least) where it sits before hauling home. Should yield a lot of wood - guessing over a cord at least. It's all near the road, so a little worried someone might try to take some - but I have a sign in the ground and red flagging stretched across the entry - hopefully no one helps themselves - the rounds are darn big, so it will have to be someone willing to work for it! Hope to get hauling this week. Cheers!

Great work NH_Wood , that will make for some nice hot fires once it's seasoned. I thought this was the year we would burn our Oak from my only scrounge but the weather was too warm so we saved the Ironwood and the Oak until next year.

    Hope Ya Get It Home

Thanks Zap - going to get on it pretty quick and hopefully not lose too much! Wish my ground would freeze back up so I could drive across my yard to the processing area - about 2 inches of thaw is making for some slop. Cheers!

Mother Nature took care of the thawing up here, the ground and the snow are harder than a rock. The warmer weather with the rain did get rid of all the ice on our driveway so that's nice.
